Dream About Changing by Sally Seltmann
I bet you can guess why I like this clip. And no, it’s not the borderline racism of having Asian people dressed in grass (I dont know, is this racist? It just seems a bit un-PC to me). But, hooray! This video has a story line!
Ok, so I’m not actually sure what the story line is. At times, it’s incredibly (and laughably) literal - but then Sally (previously performing under the pseudonym New Buffalo) clutches a giant ostrich egg meant to symbolise the inherent shyness she is singing about and wishing to let go of.
Overall, the clip is largely adorable. And the colour palate and pacing of the video fit so well with Sally’s girly, delicate tones. But mostly, I just wanted to show that even though it’s not an exciting song, you can hold a viewers attention for a full 3 minutes. It doesn’t have to be a crazy murder-mystery, just a nice story for us to follow through to the end. It simply creates another level for us to connect to the music.
And Asian grass people never go astray.
