I don’t understand this (and I’m not just talking about the lyrics - ho ho ho!)
I quite enjoy hardcore music. I’m not so into the scene that I could tell you if this is straight hardcore - Or post hardcore. Or moshcore. Or metal - or whatever but I do enjoy quite a variety of bands with screaming/growling vocals and bass breakdowns. For that reason, I feel confident in saying that I am not a grandma who thinks this sort of “noise” must all be connected to Satanic worship and goat sacrifices.
But that being said, the setting for this clip is just so strange. I feel like I’m waiting to see Britney Spears run along the water’s edge in a white flowing dress. No, hardcore doesnt all have to be darkness and gloom but it’s not exactly sun drenched beaches and water sports!
And then it get’s hilarious about the 1:48 mark when the lead singer is just chilling on his board, yelling out at the sea cos he no longer has a microphone. And then the guitarist rocking out on the back of an inflatable boat. And the drummer, hitting the water with his sticks! Ok, so then this is a joke right?
I get it if it’s one of those “f*ck it, let’s do what we want” kind of clips but it’s just not pulled off that well. It starts off normal(ish) with the entire band on the beach just as if they were on a stage. When that get’s boring (and it does quickly) they strip off like superman with ther wetsuits underneath their clothes and head toward the waves. And then it turns into a surf video. We get it, you’re good at surfing. Surfing with a guitar in hand and managing not to smash it? There is definitely some talent there. And afterwards, we play our instruments in the water.
Oddly enough, I think the issue is that there is too much going on. They should have focused on it being a surf video as a whole. Or having the instruments-under-water theme throughout. Or continued with the beach-stage setting rather than mix it in with home video fish eye footage. Or done the whole thing home video style. Do you see what I mean? It could have worked if it had been a bit more focused. And maybe was a little overcast.
