Thinkin’ Bout Something by Hanson

Yes, that Hanson. They’re still a band and they’re actually a great one. My 8-year-old heart will always hold a soft spot for them (I once wrote a poem about Isaac) but how can you not a love a band that recreates one of the best scenes in movie history, and does so with a little bit of tongue-in-cheek.

Very few music videos are this much fun nowadays. Whether the artists are taking themselves too seriously, or being too indulgent, or the song is a bit of a downer or maybe they just don’t have a good concept - too many music videos in recent times aren’t able to put a smile on the audience’s face. And there is, of course, a place for videos with a more serious tone, but don’t you just always love the fun ones?

And the best part about it is, if you listen to the lyrics, it’s not all sunshine and lollipops. It’s a bit of sticking to the one that left you and I can’t imagine a better way of sticking it to someone than leading an awesome, fun filled life. And tell me, what is more fun than dancing in the middle of the streets?

Oh, the big dance number, how I have missed you! Yes, I love dancing - in all it’s forms - and the neighbourhood/communal dance sequence in this video is just joy personified. But of course, those are paid actors and dances so it’s really up to the band to add in that genuine sense of happiness, and they pull it off flawlessly. Between two the brothers cheekily playing multiple characters and that gorgeous shot of the keys reflecting in Taylor’s sunglasses, I dare you to try not to sing along, dance along, bop along, nod along, try to freeze frame a high five, to this awesome tune.

And yes that is Weird Al playing tambourine, don’t ask why.
